Designing a Visual Identity system for a website builder

Challenges
One of the core challenges was defining a visual identity that communicates simplicity without reducing the perceived value of the product. Website builders are often positioned either as overly technical tools or overly simplified solutions. The goal was to find a balance where the product feels accessible to beginners while still being trustworthy for users building real business websites.
Another challenge was creating a system that works across different contexts. The identity needed to live not only on marketing pages but also inside the product itself, where clarity and usability are critical. This required thinking beyond static visuals and considering how typography, color, and layout behave in real interactions and edge cases.
Additionally, it was important to establish a strong and recognizable visual presence in a saturated market. The challenge was to achieve this without relying on complexity or decorative elements that could distract from the user’s primary goals. Every visual decision had to support both brand expression and functional clarity.
Solutions
I approached the identity as a scalable system rather than a set of visual assets. Starting with exploration, I tested multiple stylistic directions to understand how different levels of expression impact perception and usability. This allowed me to identify a direction that feels bold and distinctive, yet remains clean and controlled in practical use.
The final system is built around a strong primary color that creates immediate recognition and energy, supported by neutral layouts that maintain clarity and focus. Typography was carefully selected to balance personality and readability, ensuring it performs well across both marketing and product environments.
To ensure consistency, I defined clear rules for spacing, hierarchy, and component behavior. This helped create a cohesive experience across different touchpoints while reducing visual noise. The system was designed to scale, allowing it to adapt to different screen sizes, content types, and future product needs without losing its integrity.
By aligning brand and product thinking, the identity not only communicates the core idea of simplicity but also reinforces it through the actual user experience.
